Description

The use of a range of ITS solutions (e.g. ramp metering, incident detection, weather monitoring, VMS / advance warning, lane keeping, hard-shoulder running, variable speed limits and managed motorways) is helping to reduce crash rates on high-standard expressways and motorways. Increasingly, V2I solutions are improving safety on other parts of the road network.  The introduction of driver assistance technologies and increasingly autonomous vehicles will be key developments over the next few years.

A “Smart Motorway” or “ITS” module model enhancement which accounts for ITS and related technology deployment on roadways is a desired outcome of this partnership.
