The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), Hellastron and the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport have prepared a proposal to the European Road Assessment Programme for a EuroRAP National Programme in Greece. The next round of EuroRAP National Scheme Licence Awards are expected to be announced in February 2020.<\/p>\n

The National Scheme for Greece proposes CERTH is designated the \u2018\u2019EuroRAP Greek National Programme Lead\u2019\u2019. CERTH will coordinate with Hellastron and the Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the delivery of a strategic Road Assessment Programme (RAP). This would allow Greece\u2019s achievements on infrastructure safety to be tracked to 2030 in line with UN Road Safety Performance Targets 3 and 4 by 2030 to be tracked. It also supports the European long term goal to move close to zero fatalities and serious injuries in road transport by 2050. It will also support the Greek Ministry and Hellastron in the new reporting requirements of Directive 2008\/96\/EC on road infrastructure safety management.<\/p>\n

Greece is the only country which has achieved the European goal of reducing by 50% the number of road deaths from 2011 to 2020 and progress is encouraging reflecting the work implemented to date. Nonetheless, with 64 deaths per 1 million inhabitants, the country has the highest rate in the EU.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the development of a National Scheme for Greece, Lina Konstantinopoulou, Secretary General EuroRAP said \u201cI am really pleased to see that Greece is following countries developing successful EuroRAP National Scheme partnerships and strong collaboration with the relevant road authorities. The EuroRAP programme partners in Slovenia, for example, have recently been awarded the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for their achievements. I look forward to the contribution EuroRAP can make in helping make rapid reductions in road trauma and hope that Greece can remain in among the leaders in rapid reductions in the coming decade.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n
