Course participants were from public and private institutions in Tanzania, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tanroads.go.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tanzania National Roads Agency<\/a>\u00a0(TANROADS),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tarura.go.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency<\/a>\u00a0(TARURA), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.erb.go.ug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Engineer\u2019s Registration Board<\/a> (ERB). A third of those who successfully completed the course were women.<\/p>\n<p>The course was provided to participants free of charge as part of the UNRSF-funded Ten Step Project Tanzania which is being delivered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uneca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United Nations Economic Commission of Africa<\/a>\u00a0(UNECA),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.irfnet.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Road Federation<\/a>\u00a0(IRF),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Road Assessment Programme<\/a>\u00a0(iRAP),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.piarc.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Road Association<\/a>\u00a0(PIARC) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tara.or.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tanzania Roads Association<\/a> (TARA).<\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive training programme revolving around <strong>Road Safety Engineering<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>iRAP\u00a0Road Assessments<\/strong>; and\u00a0<strong>Road Safety Audits<\/strong> is being delivered as part of the project activities. The purpose of this training programme is to support the acquisition of new skills and the improvement of existing skills to support delivery of safe roads in Tanzania and the region.<\/p>\n<p>To date, 89 participants have fully completed the Road Safety Engineering course and have been certified in 2021, and another 206 registered participants are currently working through the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/training\/\">iRAP Road Assessments courses<\/a>.
