Hierbij wordt prioriteit gegeven aan \u201ccomplete streets\u201d van categorie 3 of hoger, waarbij veilig lopen en fietsen centraal staan voor klimaatbestendige en inclusieve actieve mobiliteit.<\/p>\n<p>In de afgelopen jaren heeft Dodoma een ingrijpende transformatie ondergaan, waarbij het bebouwde oppervlak van de stad met meer dan 440 procent is toegenomen. Een ambitieuze reeks infrastructuurontwikkelingsprojecten verandert niet alleen het fysieke landschap van de stad, maar luidt ook een nieuw tijdperk van economische groei, een verbeterde levenskwaliteit en een betere bereikbaarheid in voor de inwoners van de stad. Het transportsysteem van Dodoma heeft echter dringend upgrades nodig. Meer dan 80 procent van de wegen in de stad is nog onverhard, waardoor het voor bewoners moeilijk is om betrouwbaar te reizen. Veerkrachtige weginfrastructuur is nodig om de kwetsbaarheid voor klimaateffecten te verminderen.<\/p>\n<p>De\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.worldbank.org\/en\/projects-operations\/project-detail\/P176623\">Dodoma Ge\u00efntegreerd en Duurzaam Transport (DIST) project<\/a> zal vier belangrijke wegen die het stadscentrum van Dodoma verbinden met andere delen van het land upgraden naar de internationale iRAP 3-sterren of hogere standaard. Deze wegen, die momenteel twee rijstroken hebben, zullen worden uitgebreid met aparte ruimtes voor verschillende weggebruikers \u2013 auto's, bussen, voetgangers en fietsers.<\/p>\n<p>Aan weerszijden van de wegen wordt vijf meter ruimte gereserveerd voor wandelen en fietsen. Kenmerken zoals schuine stoepranden en voelbare bestrating helpen mensen met een beperking om er veilig te navigeren.<\/p>\n<p>Het project voegt wandel- en fietspaden, verlichting, veiligheidsverbeteringen in risicovolle gebieden, speciale oversteekplaatsen, voorzieningen om het verkeer bij kruispunten te vertragen, drainage en nieuwe wegdekken waar nodig toe. Het zal ontbrekende schakels in het huidige netwerk aanvullen en wegen, parken en groene zones verbinden.<\/p>\n<p>Het project bestaat uit twee onderdelen: de aanleg van 45,1 km aan multimodale corridors en een 60 km lang klimaatbestendig wandel- en fietsnetwerk. Het zal ten goede komen aan meer dan 430.000 inwoners (meer dan de helft van de bevolking van de stad \u2013 waaronder 222.000 vrouwen en 81.700 jongeren) en economische kansen cre\u00ebren door tegen 2030 meer dan 10.000 nieuwe banen te genereren, terwijl de economische output van de stad met 21% wordt verhoogd.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016 vernieuwde de regering van Tanzania haar toewijding aan het besluit uit 1973 om de nationale hoofdstad van Dar es Salaam naar Dodoma over te brengen. Dit bracht aanzienlijke kapitaalinvesteringen en de verhuizing van overheidsinstanties en -afdelingen naar Dodoma met zich mee. Sindsdien heeft de verschuiving snelle groei gestimuleerd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDe snelle uitbreiding van Dodoma sinds 2016 biedt zowel kansen als uitdagingen,\u201d zei Nathan Belete, directeur van de Wereldbank voor Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia en Zimbabwe. \u201cNaarmate de stad groeit, is het waarborgen van toegang tot veilig en effici\u00ebnt transport cruciaal voor het handhaven van het economisch momentum en het verbeteren van de levenskwaliteit van haar inwoners. Dit project zal Dodoma helpen op een duurzamere manier te groeien, zodat de infrastructuur gelijke tred houdt met de ambities van de stad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHet vroegtijdig aanpakken van uitdagingen op het gebied van stedelijke mobiliteit is cruciaal om te zorgen voor duurzame en inclusieve groei van de nieuwe hoofdstad en om ongeco\u00f6rdineerde groei en verspreiding te voorkomen,\u201d aldus Adam Diehl, Senior Transport Specialist en Task Team Leader bij de Wereldbank. \u201cAls een sector met veel verschillende verantwoordelijke overheidsinstanties, ministeries en spelers uit de private sector, is het van cruciaal belang om tot een holistisch stedelijk mobiliteitsplan en -ontwikkeling te komen om een levendigere en economisch dynamischere stad te ontsluiten.
