Het lokale spoorwegnet omvat meer dan honderd stations, met diensten van zes verschillende vervoerders. Een enkele tramlijn verbindt Wolverhampton en Birmingham. Vijftien vervoerders verzorgen busdiensten in de regio.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de ochtendspits wordt meer dan 701 ton van alle ritten naar stedelijke centra met de auto afgelegd, een aantal dat daalt tot 361 ton wanneer Birmingham apart wordt beschouwd. TfWM streeft ernaar de hoge mate van autoafhankelijkheid te verminderen en van de West Midlands een plek te maken &#039;waar mensen kunnen gedijen zonder te hoeven rijden of een auto te bezitten&#039;. Er is een toenemende focus op het bevorderen van actief reizen, dat minder dan 21 ton van het verkeer uitmaakt dat tijdens de ochtendspits de stedelijke centra binnenkomt. Tijdens de pandemie ontving TfWM \u00a316,85 miljoen uit het noodfonds voor actief reizen van de Britse overheid om specifieke infrastructuur voor voetgangers en fietsers aan te leggen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wat zijn de unieke aspecten van een regio binnen het PHOEBE-project?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In tegenstelling tot andere toepassingslocaties is West Midlands een gecombineerde autoriteit die bestaat uit meerdere steden en dorpen. Elke lokale overheid heeft haar eigen perspectief en prioriteiten als het gaat om transport, voortkomend uit de verschillende niveaus van landelijke en stedelijke gebieden binnen elke regio. Veel van de regio&#039;s kampen met een hoge mate van stedelijke achterstand en een sterke bevolkingsgroei, wat nieuwe uitdagingen met zich meebrengt voor veilige mobiliteit van burgers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wat zijn de uitdagingen op het gebied van verkeersveiligheid in de West Midlands?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De doelstelling voor de West Midlands is een vermindering van 401 ton ernstig letsel en dodelijke slachtoffers (KSI) tegen 2028. Dit vereist een daling van gemiddeld 1048 van dit soort ongevallen in 2017 naar 629 in de komende vijf jaar. De regio staat echter voor verschillende uitdagingen om veiligere wegen te realiseren, zoals de wijdverspreide opkomst van e-mobiliteitsoplossingen, meer voertuigen met verbonden en autonome technologie\u00ebn en een toenemend gebruik van actieve vervoersmethoden. In 2017 waren 641 ton KSI-verkeersdeelnemers in de West Midlands voetgangers, fietsers of motorrijders. Het gevaar bestaat dat de doelstelling van de regio om de afhankelijkheid van de auto te verminderen en het aandeel actieve vervoersmethoden te verhogen, zal leiden tot een toename van het totale aantal KSI-gevallen in een omgeving waar het onderliggende risiconiveau gelijk blijft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hoe kan West Midlands de andere pilotsteden ondersteunen en vice versa?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Onze regio is een groot gebied met een grote verscheidenheid aan risicoscenario&#039;s op de weg. Dit, in combinatie met een groot aantal gelijktijdige programma&#039;s, maakt het mogelijk om lessen te trekken die toepasbaar zijn in andere regio&#039;s, door gebruik te maken van de brede diversiteit van de transportomgeving en de bijbehorende oplossingen.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP is er trots op partner te zijn van PHOEBE.
