{"id":40206,"date":"2020-08-16T23:03:30","date_gmt":"2020-08-16T22:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.irap.org\/?p=40206"},"modified":"2023-09-25T01:30:43","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T00:30:43","slug":"partnership-announced-to-improve-road-safety-delivery-in-world-bank-funded-projects-in-tanzania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/nl\/2020\/08\/partnership-announced-to-improve-road-safety-delivery-in-world-bank-funded-projects-in-tanzania\/","title":{"rendered":"Partnerschap aangekondigd om de verkeersveiligheid te verbeteren in door de Wereldbank gefinancierde projecten in Tanzania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.5&#8243;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.5&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;0px||||false|false&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||||false|false&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.5&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;0px||0px||false|false&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||||false|false&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unece.org\/unrsf\/about-un-road-safety-fund.html\">United Nations Road Safety Fund\u00a0<\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/programs\/global-road-safety-facility\">The World Bank\u00a0GRSF<\/a>, with the support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-international-development\">Department For International Development (DFID)<\/a> have announced a great new partnership to apply the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/roadsafety\/publications\/20200219-202801-4216-unrsf-10-steps-infrastructure.PDF?ua=1\">UNRSC Ten Steps for Safer Road Infrastructure in Tanzania.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to reduce road traffic deaths and serious injuries by improving road safety engineering, generating knowledge and boosting the capacity of key stakeholders. The project will also use applied research to recommend enhancements to the Ten Steps approach, and potential applications for existing and future development activities by the World Bank, other MDBs and bilateral agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/roadsafety\/publications\/en\/\">Ten Steps resource<\/a> provides a repeatable well-structured plan to build local road safety capacity, design standards, training and accreditation financing, policies, audits, locally led iRAP programmes, and the celebration of success.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will bring together the local experts in Tanzania including TANROADS,TARURA and TARA, UNECA, International Road Federation, PIARC, iRAP and The World Bank to create long-term impact in support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/violence_injury_prevention\/road_traffic\/12GlobalRoadSafetyTargets.pdf?ua=1\">global goals\u00a0<\/a>and achievement of Target 3 and Target 4 for 3- star or better journeys across Tanzania in accordance with the 2030 agenda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Soames Job, Head of the GRSF<\/strong>, said:\u00a0<em>\u201cWe are pleased to be jointly funding this valuable road safety delivery initiative for Tanzania. This joint undertaking is an important step for saving lives and preventing debilitating injuries in Tanzania, and a vital part of the close collaboration of the World Bank and GRSF with iRAP, IRF, PIARC, UNRSC, and UNRSF.
