{"id":3569,"date":"2022-11-30T05:36:30","date_gmt":"2022-11-29T18:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/irap-and-aleatica-foundation-sign-mou-for-road-safety-in-mexico\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:40:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:40:06","slug":"irap-and-aleatica-foundation-sign-mou-for-road-safety-in-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/nl\/irap-and-aleatica-foundation-sign-mou-for-road-safety-in-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"iRAP and Aleatica Foundation sign MOU for Road Safety in Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Copy-of-Mailchimp-header-1.jpg\" alt=\"Copy of Mailchimp header (1)\" \/><\/p>\n<p>De <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/nl\/\">Internationaal Wegenbeoordelingsprogramma (iRAP)<\/a> and the Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to reduce Mexico\u2019s road injury burden through the organization of projects and programs to increase road safety.<\/p>\n<p>The Aleatica Foundation for Road Safety is a non-profit, civil association in Mexico constituted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aleatica.com\/en\/home\/\">Aleatica<\/a>, the global transport infrastructure operator that manages 20 road concessions in seven countries, nine urban highways, and seven interstate corridors, which together handle over 353 trillion vehicles annually. The company plans to invest 94.5 million euros in road safety projects over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP CEO Rob McInerney emphasized that according to WHO data, Mexico\u2019s road fatalities number over 16,300 annually, with an additional 167,000 serious injuries.\u00a0 In total, this issue costs Mexico between 1.8% and 3.5% of its annual GDP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImproving the safety of Mexico\u2019s road infrastructure by 2030 has enormous potential \u2013 the saving of 1.2 million deaths and serious injuries over the 20-year life of road treatments and an economic benefit of $15 for every $1 spent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201ciRAP and the Aleatica Foundation share a common goal which is to improve people&#8217;s lives by alleviating the social and economic effects of road accidents. We\u2019re excited to commence our partnership today in fulfilment of the commitments and targets of the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/nl\/2021\/10\/how-safe-roads-feature-in-global-plan-for-decade-of-action\/\">Wereldwijd Actieplan Decennium voor Verkeersveiligheid 2021-2030<\/a> and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,\u201d Mr. McInerney said.<\/p>\n<p>The MOU includes the development of projects and programs to make roads safer in Mexico through the application of globally recognized iRAP methodologies.
