27 leden van de UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC), waaronder iRAP, hebben een gezamenlijke verklaring afgelegd inzake de High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety die van 30 juni tot 1 juli 2022 zal plaatsvinden.<\/p>\n

Wij, de ondergetekenden van de United Nations Road Safety Collaboration, hebben met evenveel enthousiasme als hoop uitgekeken naar de High-Level Meeting on Global Road Safety, die gepland staat van 30 juni 2022 tot 1 juli 2022, en met de verwachting dat dit een katalytisch moment kon zijn voor echt leiderschap, een betekenisvolle toewijzing van middelen, en een ge\u00ebngageerde implementatie van acties om het wegveiligheidsdoel van 2030 te halen.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Echter, ons optimisme wordt steeds vaker ernstig op de proef gesteld.<\/em><\/p>\n

Al meer dan tien jaar heeft de Russische Federatie een constructieve leidende rol gespeeld bij de Verenigde Naties op het gebied van verkeersveiligheid wereldwijd. Het is de hoofd facilitator van de Verklaring voor de High-level Meeting. Echter, de agressie ge\u00efnitieerd door de Russische Federatie in Oekra\u00efne en de daaropvolgende sancties van de VN en lidstaten tegen de Russische Federatie baren ons grote zorgen over de vraag of een succesvolle Verklaring constructief kan worden onderhandeld en daarom of het doel van de High-level Meeting om een decennium van actie en resultaten veilig te stellen, succesvol kan worden bereikt.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

In de huidige politieke context is de legitimiteit van de Russische Federatie om lidstaten te betrekken bij de constructieve dialoog die nodig is om een betekenisvol Verklaringconcept te bereiken, ernstig aangetast. Als lidstaten ervoor kiezen niet deel te nemen aan de onderhandelingen als gevolg van de faciliterende rol van de Russische Federatie, zoals een aantal van hen al heeft aangegeven, zal de krachtige tekst en de uitkomst van de vergadering die zo essentieel zijn om de tweede Decade of Action momentum te geven, tragisch gemist worden.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Ter wille van de weggebruikers van de wereld en als stemmen uit het maatschappelijk middenveld, de academische wereld en het bedrijfsleven voor verkeersveiligheid wereldwijd, roepen wij op tot het uitstel van de Hoog-niveau Bijeenkomst of tot vervanging van de Russische Federatie als facilitator door een andere lidstaat.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

We moeten een weg vooruit vinden. Zonder dit vrezen we dat de cruciale kans om echte verandering te bewerkstelligen op het gebied van verkeersveiligheid, die jaarlijks duizenden levens over de hele wereld zal redden, gemist kan worden.<\/em><\/p>\n
