Echter, 80% van de openbare wegen in Australi\u00eb wordt beheerd door lokale overheden, en slechts een zeer klein deel van deze lokale wegen is onderworpen aan een sterrenclassificatie.<\/p>\n<p>ARRB, een <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/nl\/partnering-to-save-lives\/#mytabs|4\">iRAP Centrum van Uitmuntendheid<\/a> In Australi\u00eb heeft de organisatie zich ingezet om lokale overheidsfunctionarissen bewust te maken van het belang van inzicht in de verkeersveiligheidsrisico&#039;s van hun wegennet. Dit omvatte onder meer het uitvoeren van AusRAP-beoordelingen op regionale wegen in meer dan 40 gemeenten en het benaderen van ingenieurs van lokale overheden tijdens conferenties zoals de IPWEA NSW State Conference in maart 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens een sessie over verkeersveiligheid op de IPWEA NSW-conferentie schetste David McTiernan, nationaal leider verkeersveiligheid bij ARRB, hoe inzicht in de risico&#039;s voor de verkeersveiligheid op lokale wegen met behulp van AusRAP kan bijdragen aan de realisatie van prioritaire gebieden in het nieuwe beleid. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafety.gov.au\/new-strategy-national-road-safety-strategy-2021-2030\">(Ontwerp) Nationale strategie voor verkeersveiligheid 2021-2030.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>De informatie uit een recent afgerond pilotproject, waarbij meer dan 677 km aan voornamelijk landelijke wegen in drie regionale gemeenten betrokken waren, is met enthousiasme ontvangen door de ingenieurs van de gemeenten die zich bezighouden met verkeersveiligheid, verkeer en wegeninfrastructuur.<\/p>\n<p>David zei <em>\u2018&#039;Met meer dan 18.000 km aan regionale wegen in New South Wales en tienduizenden kilometers meer in de rest van het land, staan lokale overheden voor een aanzienlijke uitdaging. Ten eerste moeten ze inzicht krijgen in de mate van risico en vervolgens bepalen hoe ze die risico&#039;s optimaal kunnen beperken ten behoeve van hun lokale gemeenschappen.&#039;\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In de nieuwe verkeersveiligheidsstrategie koppelt de Australische overheid infrastructuurfinanciering aan <em>\u2018&#039;meetbare verbeteringen in de veiligheid&#039;\u2019<\/em>.De sterrenclassificatie van wegen is een directe indicator voor de verkeersveiligheid en voor de resultaten die voortvloeien uit de financiering van infrastructuurprogramma&#039;s en -projecten.<\/p>\n<p>Een belangrijk resultaat van het pilotproject was ervoor te zorgen dat de ingenieurs van de gemeente de beoordeling en rapportage voor eigen gebruik zouden uitvoeren.
