iRAP is proud and honoured to be awarded a 2020 Prince Michael International Road Safety Award<\/a> for its charitable work saving thousands of lives in more than 100 countries worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

iRAP<\/a> and its partners have now assessed the safety of 1.5 million km of road, helped make over US$80 billion of infrastructure investment safer, trained nearly 30,000 engineers and road safety practitioners and informed safer school journeys in every continent.<\/p>\n

iRAP CEO Rob McInerney said iRAP\u2019s vision for a world free of high-risk roads for all road users is achievable and thanked the thousands of partners worldwide who have now extended the charity\u2019s impact to more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n

\u201ciRAP and our partners have helped eliminate high-risk roads, high-risk streets and high-risk journeys to school across the world.\u00a0 We are united in our passion to save lives and reduce road trauma and appreciate the amazing support of our major donor, the FIA Stichting<\/a>, to make it all happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so proud of the incredible work of local road assessment programmes and partners like BrazilRAP, EuroRAP<\/a>, ThaiRAP, MyRAP, IndiaRAP<\/a>, usRAP, KiwiRAP, ChinaRAP, AusRAP and SARAP. Our development partners like the Global Road Safety Facility<\/a> and all of the multi-lateral development banks.\u00a0 Our Sterbeoordeling voor scholen<\/a> sponsor FedEx<\/a> and global partner 3M<\/a> and all of the SR4S Hoofdpartners<\/a>.\u00a0 Together they are identifying and assessing high-risk roads, mobilising investment, ensuring road designs and upgrades meet the 3-star or better global standard and advocating in the corridors of power and streets of their communities to eliminate high-risk roads for all road users.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are road safety champions of the highest order and iRAP is proud to support them in driving change that is saving lives every day,\u201d Mr McInerney said.<\/p>\n

In a released video statement<\/a> to winners, HRH Prince Michael of Kent said, \u201cYour achievements are significant, not just because they\u2019re innovative, but because they\u2019ve actually saved lives and will continue to do so in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour commitment will certainly help to achieve the ambitious targets being set for the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety and your programme will provide encouragement for others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rob said, \u201cWe look forward to supporting countries in the Second Decade of Action to achieve the SDGs and UN Global Road Safety Performance Doelen 3 en 4<\/a> – for all new roads to be 3-star or better and more than 75 per cent of travel to be on the equivalent of 3-star or better for all road users by 2030,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

Achieving the target for more than 75 per cent of travel on 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 will save 450,000 lives per year with $8 of savings for every $1 invested.\u00a0 The investment will save lives, save the health system and create jobs ensuring a win-win-win for all.<\/p>\n

\u201cHigh impact locally-led road assessment programmes with local experts will be key,\u201d Rob added, \u201cand iRAP stands ready to support countries with tools like Risk Mapping<\/a>, Star Rating<\/a>, Investment Plans<\/a>, Sterbeoordeling voor scholen<\/a>, Sterbeoordeling voor ontwerpen<\/a> en onze Training and Accreditation Programme<\/a> to build the local skills needed for life-saving success.\u201d<\/p>\n

Due to COVID travel restrictions, the 2020 Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards will be presented in a series of webinars aimed at promoting winners\u2019 achievements and aim to link stakeholders who can benefit from winners\u2019 experience and knowledge.<\/p>\n
