May 15 2020:<\/strong> In Brazil, the Governor of S\u00e3o Paulo, Mr. Jo\u00e3o Doria, signed the largest road concession contract in the country, 1,273km for 30 years concession between Piracicaba and Panorama. The concession project includes the International Finance Corporation<\/a> (World Bank Group) as consultants, and it is the expected USD2.4 billion investment on the network.<\/p>\n

The concession will be the first in Brazil to include iRAP methodology which will measure the road safety of the network.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The work will be completed over a 30-year period,\u00a0with the highways to be upgraded between the city of Piracicaba, in the Campinas region, and the municipality of Panorama, in the far west of the state, bordering Mato Grosso do Sul. The modernization and works plan includes the construction of 600 km of duplications and new lanes (urban contours).\u00a0There will also be additional lanes and marginal roads, works that improve fluidity, the flow of regional production and road safety.\u00a0Shoulder roads, new accesses and returns, pavement recovery, walkways and cycle paths will also be implemented.<\/p>\n

The implementation of the iRAP road safety methodology will reinforce the focus of the S\u00e3o Paulo State Government on the safety of state highways.<\/p>\n

This project is one of the many that will be undertaken by Brazili\u00ebRAP<\/strong> partners. BrazilRAP was officially launched in November 2019, in association with the National Department of Transport and Infrastructure Brazil (DNIT<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Over BrazilRAP<\/strong><\/p>\n

Het BrazilRAP-programma heeft tot doel de gevaarlijkste wegen in het hele land aan te pakken, in samenwerking met nationale en deelstaatinstanties. Het programma wordt uitgevoerd door DNIT, in samenwerking met lokale deskundigen, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van lokaal onderzoek en lokale middelen, en wordt ondersteund door iRAP.<\/p>\n

Jaarlijks komen in Brazili\u00eb meer dan 41.000 mensen om het leven als gevolg van verkeersongevallen, en het aanpakken van risicovolle wegen is van cruciaal belang om het aantal slachtoffers terug te dringen. Als tegen 2030 meer dan 75 procent van het verkeer voor alle weggebruikers plaatsvindt op wegen met drie sterren of beter, kan dit jaarlijks meer dan 13.000 levens redden, met een economisch voordeel van USD$9 voor elke $1 die wordt uitgegeven. In samenwerking met onze partners in Brazili\u00eb zal BrazilRAP ernaar streven om onveilige wegen met 1 of 2 sterren uit te bannen en een wereldleider te worden op het gebied van het ontwerp en de aanleg van gloednieuwe, veilige en slimme snelwegen met 3 sterren of meer in het land, met wereldwijde steun van iRAP en de FIA Stichting<\/a>.<\/p>\n
