The 5-year agreement will facilitate collaboration between the IDB and iRAP to promote programs and projects to significantly improve the safety of the roads in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016 kwamen in Latijns-Amerika meer dan 110.000 mensen om het leven en raakten ruim 1 miljoen mensen ernstig gewond bij verkeersongevallen, met een schade van 1,9 biljoen dollar, oftewel 4,4 procent van het bbp (WHO, 2018).<\/p>\n<p>Het partnerschap zal zich richten op het realiseren van een meetbare vermindering van verkeersslachtoffers in de regio en bijdragen aan de Duurzame Ontwikkelingsdoelen (SDG&#039;s) en de mondiale doelstellingen voor verkeersveiligheid, met name doelstelling 3: &quot;Tegen 2030 voldoen alle nieuwe wegen aan technische normen voor alle weggebruikers die rekening houden met verkeersveiligheid, of behalen ze een beoordeling van drie sterren of beter&quot;; en doelstelling 4: &quot;Tegen 2030 vindt meer dan 751 ton aan verkeer op bestaande wegen plaats op wegen die voldoen aan technische normen voor alle weggebruikers die rekening houden met verkeersveiligheid&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will pave the way to implement Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs), following the iRAP methodology in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will help reduce the number of casualties and serious injuries caused by road accidents in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Het werk van iRAP en de IDB zal zich ook richten op het evalueren van de methoden die zijn gebruikt bij eerdere investeringen in infrastructuur voor verkeersveiligheid en op het formuleren van richtlijnen en aanbevelingen voor toekomstige investeringen, met de nadruk op methoden om de effectiviteit van programma&#039;s te meten.
