In South-East Asia, Vietnam began implementing safety improvements for 3,300 school zones, while Cambodia established its first national technical working group on safe school zone infrastructure to coordinate multisectoral action, supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/starratingforschools.org\/\">Star Rating for Schools.<\/a> The Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport, together with iRAP and the International Road Federation, supported the transport design institutions of Kyrgyzstan in the adoption of<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/06\/new-guidance-on-safe-and-inclusive-road-design-published-for-road-engineers-and-infrastructure-designers-in-central-asia\/\"> inclusive street-design guidance<\/a> incorporating safe system principles.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"652\"><strong>Private sector actors advancement of infrastructure safety through innovation and safety management systems:<\/strong><br \/>iRAP has contributed to ensuring that road infrastructure safety targets in <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/policies-into-practice\/\">95 national and regional policies<\/a> result in three-star or better designs. The Star Ratings for road safety in school zones have expanded to 2,337 such zones across 80 countries through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/starratingforschools.org\/\">Star Rating for Schools Programme.<\/a><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"652\"><strong>Capacity development and knowledge exchange:<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/training\/\">iRAP has trained<\/a> more than 87,000 practitioners worldwide in safe systems, safe infrastructure and safe speeds. Collectively, these international programmes have reinforced the foundation for sustainable progress, ensuring that capacity-building remains central to achieving the targets of the Global Plan.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"652\"><strong>Countries integration of road safety into broader transport and development agendas, including urban planning and sustainable mobility:<\/strong><br \/>Through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/act-now\/mobility-snapshots\/\">Mobility Snapshots Programme<\/a> implemented by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety and iRAP, cities in Argentina, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe introduced targeted street design improvements such as upgraded crossings, expanded footpaths and traffic-calming measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The United Nations report acknowledges iRAP and our partners&#8217; extensive efforts which have bolstered the global foundation for sustainable road safety progress and implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2021\/10\/how-safe-roads-feature-in-global-plan-for-decade-of-action\/\">Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021\u20132030<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The noted initiatives illustrate the charity&#8217;s impact in supporting partners in shaping safer, more sustainable transport systems worldwide and a world free of high-risk roads.<\/p>\n<p>As we strive towards advancing the objectives of both the Decade of Action on Road Safety 2021-2030 and <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2025\/12\/un-decade-of-sustainable-transport-launches\/\">Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035<\/a>, iRAP\u2019s commitment to capacity-building and ensuring that the iRAP methodologies and tools remain freely available worldwide to empower safe infrastructure design, evidence-based investment and innovation in policy and systems, remains a cornerstone of global efforts to improve road safety for all.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP CEO Greg Smith said, &#8220;The report highlights work we are all doing to make roads safe and sets the scene for the next High Level Meeting on Road Safety to be held in New York from 20-21 July 2026.
