We are celebrating the 140 FIA clubs in 99 countries that are using the iRAP Methodology and tools to support their advocacy and action to create safer journeys.\u00a0From supporting road safety assessments and implementing the Star Rating for Schools programme, to developing free tools and resources for club members, driving advocacy and improved policy, and rolling out innovative funding programmes for safer roads and school zones, FIA partnerships are critical to ensuring high-risk roads are actioned and eliminated in local communities spanning the globe.<\/p>\n

FIA Clubs, supported by the Programme de subventions FIA pour une mobilit\u00e9 s\u00fbre et durable<\/a>, are advancing safe, clean, inclusive, and smart mobility, with CycleRAP<\/a>, le Application d'engagement des jeunes (YEA) <\/a>et Star Rating for Schools (SR4S)<\/a> valuable free tools to support their projects.<\/p>\n

Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for young people from the ages of five to 29, and FIA mobility clubs are working with iRAP in local partnerships to deliver the\u00a0SR4S programme\u00a0for safer school journeys.<\/p>\n

Thirty-four (34) clubs have embraced the programme supported by the Outil d'\u00e9valuation scolaire FIA<\/a> and annual FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grants Programme, supported by the FIA Foundation. Assessments have been conducted at 303 schools, supporting evidence-based upgrades at 112 schools. The programme has supported clubs to improve the safety of school zones in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Ecuador, Georgia, Greece, Guatemala, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

The Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM) received two awards in 2024 for its contribution to road safety – a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award and Vision Zero for Youth Award. This follows the Club\u2019s 2023 FIA President\u2019s Award for its Safer School Zone campaign that drove infrastructure improvements and school zone policy changes including 30km\/h limits.<\/p>\n

A number of clubs have completed SR4S assessments, informing lifesaving road upgrades to protect vulnerable youth – for example, the Armenian Automobile Federation (FAA)<\/a>, ACM Moldova<\/a>, Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA Nepal)<\/a>, EA991 Botswana<\/a>, le National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan<\/a> et Automovil Club de Chile<\/a>.\u00a0AA Kenya<\/a> played a valuable helping to build road safety capacity in Africa last October where two interactive \u201cSafer School Journey Walkshops\u201d, held in conjunction with the Africa Regional Road Safety Seminar, empowered participants to enhance road safety for school journeys through hands-on learning and data-driven approaches.<\/p>\n

In Australia, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) and State Clubs have been driving road safety advocacy benchmarking the National Road Safety Strategy<\/a>, et calling for the transparent use of AusRAP road ratings<\/a> to increase transparency and evidence-based decision-making in road safety investment. The\u00a0Programme australien d'\u00e9valuation des routes (AusRAP)<\/a>, dirig\u00e9 par\u00a0Austroads<\/a>, released an impressive new\u00a0Tableau de bord national<\/a>\u00a0in September sharing road safety Star Ratings for major roads across five states and territories. In addition, the Federal and State Government has committed\u00a0AUD$9 billion to fast track upgrades on Queensland\u2019s main Bruce Highway<\/a>\u00a0following the long-term advocacy of the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Le National Autosport and Karting Federation of Uzbekistan (NAFKU)<\/span> has supported un projet novateur visant \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer les normes de conception routi\u00e8re dans les pays du CAREC<\/a>, et en particulier les pays pilotes que sont le Kirghizistan, le Tadjikistan et l'Ouzb\u00e9kistan.<\/p>\n

Each year, the Reial Automobil Club de Catalunya (RACC) and Real Automovil Club de Espana undertake annual Crash Risk Mapping of the Espagnol<\/a> et Catalan<\/a> road networks helping to guide and performance track investment programs in safety.<\/p>\n

Automovil Club Del Ecuador (ANETA), Automovil Club De Costa Rica (ACCR), Autom\u00f3vil Club del Uruguay, Automovel Clube Brasileiro (ACB) and Jamaica Automobile Association (JAA) are working on an important innovation partnership with iRAP collecting around 100,000km of important data to support road safety.<\/p>\n

The Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) has been a key partner in iRAP\u2019s innovative\u00a0CycleRAP<\/a> development for safer journeys for cyclists and light mobility users. The programme received the 2025 European Cyclists\u2019 Federation Road Safety Award recognising its global impact.<\/p>\n

The safety of over 140km of cycling infrastructure has been assessed<\/a> in Skopje, North Macedonia in partnership with the Auto Moto Association of Macedonia (AMSM), the Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Slovenia (AMZS) is undertaking assessments of five Slovenian cities, and several cycle lanes were assessed in Lisbon<\/a> last year in partnership with the Automovel Club de Portugal, with potential scalability to other Portuguese cities.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0pivotal meeting to launch a Road Safety Audits Training initiative was held in March in Zimbabwe. The initiative, funded by the FIA Foundation through the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grant Program, and awarded to the Automobile Association of Zimbabwe (AAZ), aims to enhance road safety and promote sustainable mobility across the country focused on strategies to improve road infrastructure design and reduce traffic collisions.<\/p>\n

Automobile Club d\u2019Italia (ACI) and the National Automobile Club of Tunisia have previously completed large Crash Risk Mapping assessments of\u00a017 500 km<\/a>\u00a0et\u00a014 800 km<\/a>\u00a0respectivement, afin de comprendre les investissements et les d\u00e9lais n\u00e9cessaires pour sauver des vies et \u00e9viter les blessures graves dans leurs pays.<\/p>\n

FIA clubs have often been pivotal in establishing awareness of the iRAP programme in countries, and this has often led to Star Ratings informing large infrastructure investments.<\/p>\n

iRAP is actively working with the FIA, FIA Region I, II and IV to build capacity and projects to support safer journeys in the regions. As just one recent example, iRAP\u2019s Safer Journeys Lead for the Americas Edgar Zamora was honoured to mentor three teams<\/a> this year working to advance road safety in Bolivia, Ecuador and Honduras as part of the FIA Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life Initiative.<\/p>\n

Le F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)<\/a> General Assemblies will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 9-12 December. As an FIA Member, we look forward to joining the event to report on our partners\u2019 work in 135 countries. Attended by all the FIA Member Clubs, the General Assembly congregates once a year to plan the future course of the Federation.<\/p>\n
