{"id":4543,"date":"2024-01-30T08:52:24","date_gmt":"2024-01-29T21:52:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/safer-roads-for-aysen-chile\/"},"modified":"2024-01-30T08:52:24","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T21:52:24","slug":"safer-roads-for-aysen-chile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/safer-roads-for-aysen-chile\/","title":{"rendered":"Safer roads for Aysen, Chile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this month, staff from Direcci\u00f3n de Vialidad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mop.gob.cl\/\">Ministry of Public Works<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddq.cl\/\">DDQ Ing\u00e9nierie Consultants<\/a> et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apsa.cl\">APSA<\/a> attended iRAP training in Coyhaique, Chile focussed on iRAP assessment results for the Region of Aysen.<\/p>\n<p>The training and assessment is part of a larger iRAP project assessing the safety of 53 roads totalling 1,907km across the three Chilean regions of Magallanes, Ays\u00e9n and Los Lagos. Read more on the project <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/2023\/02\/worlds-most-southern-roads-under-spotlight\/\">ici<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than 530km have been assessed across 22 roads in Aysen by a consortium, led by DDQ, and supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/accreditation\/\">iRAP Accredited<\/a> Practitioners APSA (for the survey and coding) and iRAP (for quality assurance, star rating modelling and investment planning support).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat made this project special is that following the iRAP assessment, DDQ took the ViDA-generated <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/rap-tools\/investment-planning\/safer-roads-investment-plans\/\">Safer Roads Investment Plan (SRIP)<\/a> and reviewed every single countermeasure proposed by iRAP on 1 and 2-star road sections to determine their feasibility for implementation,\u201d Morgan Fletcher, iRAP\u2019s LAC Operations Team Lead said.<\/p>\n<p>Key proposed countermeasures included delineation, the installation of crash barriers and the installation of supporting elements such as directional delineators on curves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificant Star Rating improvements can be achieved through a combination of low-cost actions, such as improved markings and speed reductions on the most dangerous sections of roads. Infrastructure upgrades and speed management are the most effective ways to achieve 3-star or better roads for all road users,\u201d Mr Fletcher added.<\/p>\n<p>The training was run by Mr Fletcher, iRAP Strategic Projects Director Julio Urzua and staff from DDQ.<\/p>\n<p>The regional road authority attendees learned how to use <a href=\"https:\/\/vida.irap.org\/en-gb\/home\">ViDA<\/a>, run simulations using the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/rap-tools\/enabling-software\/star-rating-demonstrator\/\">iRAP Road Safety Demonstrator<\/a> and how to update the results in ViDA once upgrades have occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Regional training for Magallanes occurred in December, and training focussed on the Los Lagos&#8217; results is scheduled in February.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aysen-training-2.jpg\" alt=\"Aysen training 2\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Images credit: iRAP<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this month, staff from Direcci\u00f3n de Vialidad Ministry of Public Works, DDQ Engineering Consultants and APSA attended iRAP training in Coyhaique, Chile focussed on iRAP assessment results for the Region of Aysen.
