{"id":4404,"date":"2023-11-23T06:54:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-22T19:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/sict-and-irap-sign-mou-for-safer-roads-in-mexico\/"},"modified":"2023-11-23T06:54:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T19:54:33","slug":"sict-and-irap-sign-mou-for-safer-roads-in-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/sict-and-irap-sign-mou-for-safer-roads-in-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"SICT et iRAP signent un protocole d&#039;entente pour des routes plus s\u00fbres au Mexique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Mexico, through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/sct\">Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT)<\/a>, and the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote programmes and projects to eliminate high-risk roads in Mexico and develop a locally led MexiRAP programme.<\/p>\n<p>Selon <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/safety-insights-explorer\/\">World Health Organisation data<\/a>, Mexico\u2019s road fatalities number over 16,300 annually, with an additional 167,000 serious injuries.\u00a0 Road crashes cost Mexico up to 3.5% of its annual GDP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c Am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des infrastructures routi\u00e8res du Mexique d\u2019ici 2030 rec\u00e8le un potentiel \u00e9norme : cela permettrait d\u2019\u00e9viter 1,2 million de d\u00e9c\u00e8s et de blessures graves sur la dur\u00e9e de vie de 20 ans des travaux routiers et g\u00e9n\u00e9rerait un b\u00e9n\u00e9fice \u00e9conomique de $15 pour chaque $1 d\u00e9pens\u00e9. \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event and representing the Undersecretary of Transportation, Rogelio Jim\u00e9nez Pons, the General Director of the Federal Motor Transport (DGAF), Laura Nohemi Mu\u00f1oz Ben\u00edtez, said the signing of the MOU reflects the Government\u2019s priority to strengthen safety on the country\u2019s roads to save lives and reduce the burden of injury due to road crashes.<\/p>\n<p>It supports fulfilment of the commitments and targets of the Global Plan of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 to halve road deaths and injuries by 2030 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership includes the development of projects and programmes to make roads safer in Mexico through the application of the globally recognized and freely available iRAP Methodology and tools to evaluate road infrastructure risk and inform strategic investment in countermeasures to improve road safety.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership aims to foster stakeholder collaboration, capacity building, road safety innovation and the development of a locally led and globally supported MexiRAP Programme.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will be critical to achievement of UN Global Road Safety Performance Targets 3 and 4 in Mexico, which include ensuring all new roads are built to a 3-star or better standard for all road users (Target 3), and more than 75% of travel is on the equivalent of 3-star or better roads for all road users by 2030 (Target 4).<\/p>\n<p>The MOU was signed by the General Director of Technical Services of the SICT Vinicio Andr\u00e9s Serment Guerrero and iRAP Safer Journeys Lead for Latin America and the Caribbean Edgar Zamora.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/SICT-sign-2.jpg\" alt=\"SICT sign 2\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also in attendance were the General Director of Highway Safety and Facilities of the National Guard, Gen.
