{"id":41073,"date":"2020-10-26T05:47:04","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T05:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.irap.org\/?p=41073"},"modified":"2020-11-22T21:39:56","modified_gmt":"2020-11-22T21:39:56","slug":"world-day-of-remembrance-2020-remember-support-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/2020\/10\/world-day-of-remembrance-2020-remember-support-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Journ\u00e9e mondiale du souvenir 2020: Souvenez-vous - Soutenez - AGISSEZ pour des routes 3 \u00e9toiles ou plus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday 15 November 2020 marks 25 years of global observance and 15 years since the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was recognised by the UN. iRAP is proud to support #WDoR2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The objectives of <a href=\"https:\/\/worlddayofremembrance.org\/\">WDoR 2020<\/a> are to provide a platform for road traffic victims and their families to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>remember all people killed and seriously injured on the roads;<\/li>\n<li>acknowledge the crucial work of the emergency services;<\/li>\n<li>draw attention to the generally trivial legal response to culpable road deaths and injuries;<\/li>\n<li>advocate for better support for road traffic victims and victim families;<\/li>\n<li>promote evidence-based actions to prevent and eventually stop further road traffic deaths and injuries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2017, iRAP released a song that captures the tragedy that happens &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/one-by-one\">One by One<\/a> &#8211; too often on the world\u2019s roads (put together by iRAP and a group of volunteers). In 2020, our message is the same \u2013 one by one is one too many.<\/p>\n<p>In Sweden earlier this year, iRAP launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/because-every-life-counts\/\">Vaccines for Roads resource<\/a> to acknowledge and highlight the tragic face and true extent of life-changing road crash injuries incurred every single day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Every day<\/strong>, 56 people are left quadriplegic, 161 are rendered amputees, 914 are \u2018degloved\u2019, 932 suffer severe acquired brain injuries and 20,865 suffer limb fractures. In total 102,835 predominately young people suffer life changing injuries or death. USD$6 billion of new costs are added to health, insurance and welfare costs, every, single, day.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;2_3,1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Vaccines_for_Roads_V_Brochure-2-980&#215;613-1.png&#8221; title_text=&#8221;Vaccines_for_Roads_V_Brochure-2-980&#215;613&#8243; url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/human-impact\/&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;on&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/irap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/WDoR2020-1.png&#8221; title_text=&#8221;WDoR2020&#8243; url=&#8221;https:\/\/worlddayofremembrance.org\/&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.6.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tac.vic.gov.au\/clients\/additional-info\/peoples-stories\">TAC<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitalstrategies.org\/\">Vital Strategies<\/a>\u00a0we are able to share<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/human-impact\/\"> their stories<\/a>.\u00a0 Stories of a life with brain injury, quadriplegia, spinal injury and limb fractures.\u00a0 Stories of a loved one lost.\u00a0 Stories that began with a preventable hit pedestrian crash, run-off road crash, head-on crash, intersection crash, bicycle or motorcycle crash.\u00a0 Stories of courage and despair.\u00a0 Real stories of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/human-impact\/\">human impact<\/a> \u2013 and our need to apply the Vaccines for Roads and the other safe system actions that will prevent crashes and needless suffering.<\/p>\n<p>These real stories of human impact help us remember those who have suffered from these terrible tragedies, but also help us learn and inspire \u2013 how can we all work together towards a world free of high-risk roads? Towards saving lives and reducing serious injuries on our roads around the world?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/because-every-life-counts\/\">Vaccines for Roads<\/a> unlocks the potential of the world\u2019s largest road infrastructure safety database to explore how safe the world\u2019s roads are and provide the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaccinesforroads.org\/business-case-for-safer-roads\/\">Business Case for 3-star or better roads<\/a> for all road users worldwide. With knowledge of the human and financial impact, the current condition of the world\u2019s roads; the Business Case for Safer Roads and case studies of success, we have the moral imperative, the policy setting, funding mechanism and recipe for scale.<\/p>\n<p>Now with the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/2020\/09\/proclamation-of-second-decade-of-action-for-road-safety-2021-2030\/\">Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030<\/a> announced, there is an opportunity for harnessing the successes and lessons of previous years and building upon them to save lives on the world\u2019s roads and facilitate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Second Decade of Action for Road Safety will continue to reinforce\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/violence_injury_prevention\/road_traffic\/12GlobalRoadSafetyTargets.pdf\">12 Global Road Safety Performance Targets<\/a>, including\u00a0<strong>Target 3<\/strong>: All new roads to be 3-star or better and\u00a0<strong>Target 4<\/strong>: &gt;75% of travel on the equivalent of 3-star or better for all by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP will continue to work with our partners in over 100 countries around the world to eliminate high-risk roads and make our roads safer for all road users \u2013 #3StarorBetter. We know we have the potential to save lives \u2013 one by one \u2013 as we already are.
