The Ten Step Project Tanzania Consortium<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>was delighted today to host in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the ceremony with which diplomas were handed over to the newly certified 15 Road Safety Auditors.<\/p>\n

The successful participants completed three parts of a thorough Road Safety Audit course which entailed 60 hours of interactive classes as well as practical exercise in Dar Es Salaam, and a final theoretical and practical exam. Course participants were from public and private institutions in Tanzania, including the Tanzania National Roads Agency<\/a>\u00a0(TANROADS),\u00a0Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency<\/a>\u00a0(TARURA), and\u00a0Engineer\u2019s Registration Board<\/a> (ERB). A third of those who successfully completed the course were women.<\/p>\n

The course was provided to participants free of charge as part of the UNRSF-funded Ten Step Project Tanzania which is being delivered by the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa<\/a>\u00a0(UNECA),\u00a0F\u00e9d\u00e9ration routi\u00e8re internationale<\/a>\u00a0(IRF),\u00a0International Road Assessment Programme<\/a>\u00a0(iRAP),\u00a0World Road Association<\/a>\u00a0(PIARC) and\u00a0Tanzania Roads Association<\/a> (TARA).<\/p>\n

A comprehensive training programme revolving around Road Safety Engineering<\/strong>;\u00a0iRAP\u00a0Road Assessments<\/strong>; et\u00a0Road Safety Audits<\/strong> is being delivered as part of the project activities. The purpose of this training programme is to support the acquisition of new skills and the improvement of existing skills to support delivery of safe roads in Tanzania and the region.<\/p>\n

To date, 89 participants have fully completed the Road Safety Engineering course and have been certified in 2021, and another 206 registered participants are currently working through the iRAP Road Assessments courses<\/a>. In addition, a Tanzania Road Assessment Program is due to go live in 2022, supporting the project to significantly reduce the risks for all road users and adding to the institutional capacity building which is at the heart of the project.<\/p>\n
