{"id":3278,"date":"2022-06-14T01:59:31","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T15:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/official-global-launch-of-cyclerap\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:39:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:39:55","slug":"official-global-launch-of-cyclerap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/official-global-launch-of-cyclerap\/","title":{"rendered":"Lancement mondial officiel de CycleRAP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Media Release &#8211; 14 June 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Suite \u00e0 des projets pilotes concluants en Europe et \u00e0 quatre ann\u00e9es de recherche et d\u00e9veloppement men\u00e9es en consultation avec des experts mondiaux du cyclisme et de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/cyclerap\/\">CycleRAP<\/a> was launched at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velo-city2022.com\/en\/\">Velo-city Conference<\/a> on 14 June 2022 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.<\/p>\n<p>CycleRAP is the latest of a range of innovative tools and models iRAP provides to help make the world\u2019s road networks safer. It comes at a critical time, where cities around the world are working to improve the infrastructure and safety of sustainable transport modes.<\/p>\n<p>CycleRAP is a model which can be used for easy, affordable and fast evaluation of road and bicycling infrastructure for safety. It aims to help cities and others identify where the risk of bicycle and light mobility crashes is high so safety can be improved.<\/p>\n<p>CycleRAP utilise des donn\u00e9es sur les caract\u00e9ristiques d&#039;une route, d&#039;une rue ou d&#039;une piste cyclable pour \u00e9valuer le risque d&#039;accidents impliquant des cyclistes et des usagers de v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 mobilit\u00e9 l\u00e9g\u00e8re, quel que soit le type d&#039;infrastructure (route ou hors route) et pour tous les types d&#039;accidents. Ce syst\u00e8me est utilisable partout dans le monde.<\/p>\n<p>The CycleRAP model and data will be valuable to a wide range of stakeholders, including transport and urban planners, bike share and micro mobility sharing service providers, bicycle courier and food delivery companies and school communities.<\/p>\n<p>Les utilisations sp\u00e9cifiques comprennent\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>R\u00e9pondre aux pr\u00e9occupations de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, explicites ou g\u00e9n\u00e9rales, des cyclistes et des utilisateurs de v\u00e9hicules l\u00e9gers<\/li>\n<li>\u00c9valuer la capacit\u00e9 du r\u00e9seau existant \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 une demande en forte croissance ou \u00e0 une augmentation du nombre de nouveaux types de v\u00e9hicules<\/li>\n<li>Prioriser le financement et l&#039;investissement dans les infrastructures cyclables et de mobilit\u00e9 l\u00e9g\u00e8re<\/li>\n<li>Aider les villes \u00e0 formaliser des mesures d&#039;intervention rapide pour les cyclistes apr\u00e8s la COVID-19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The model has been developed by iRAP with oversight of an <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/cyclerap\/\">international expert advisory group<\/a>, and built upon the earlier work of the Dutch mobility club, ANWB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycleRAP is the first globally-applicable model of its kind,\u201d said Monica Olyslagers, iRAP\u2019s Global Innovation Manager and Cities Specialist, \u201ciRAP remains committed to providing evidence-based road safety models that can inform good policy, investment and design for safer mobility. Safety for bicycling and other forms of light mobility are critical for cities moving toward more healthy and environmentally friendly modes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CycleRAP model expands upon iRAP\u2019s current Bicyclist Star Ratings so that paths can be assessed independent of road networks. It also takes into account a broader range of crash types relevant to bicyclists and other forms of light mobility. It does not only assess the risk of conflicts with large vehicles, but also that with other bicyclists or light mobility riders, pedestrians, and the risk of crashes not involving other users.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that internationally, 60-90% of hospitalisations resulting from bicycle and light mobility crashes do not involve a direct conflict with a vehicle. \u201cBicycle crashes are notoriously under-reported everywhere,\u201d said Ms Olyslagers, \u201cEven where someone is severely injured in a bicycle crash, if a vehicle isn\u2019t directly involved, only an ambulance is called. The crash rarely makes it into police reports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycleRAP fills this gap so that those responsible for managing this infrastructure can pin-point where high risk sections are and improve the safety of them before crashes happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CycleRAP was piloted along with other assessment methodologies in the EIRA-EuroRAP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.interreg-danube.eu\/sabrina\">SABRINA Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The SABRINA Project, running in the framework of the Danube Transnational Programme (Interreg Danube) with co-funding by European Union funds (ERDF, ENI), aims to tackle cycling infrastructure safety issues on existing, planned and missing cycling corridors across nine countries of the Danube region. The 2.5-year project has assessed 2,500km of long-distance EuroVelo cycle routes, building a tool for their assessment, and canvassing implementation opportunities with road authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCycleRAP is the newest of the assessment methodologies being used and compared under the SABRINA project. Using CycleRAP has meant we have been able to assess the risk on parts of the network which are separate to the road network,\u201d explains Olivera Rozi, the SABRINA Project Director. \u00a0\u201cIt also gives us a better understanding of the quality of the infrastructure for bicyclists. It can be used on long-distance routes as well as in urban areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>iRAP is partnering with leading industry partners to ensure the CycleRAP model can be of benefit to as many cities as possible through existing tools and platforms.
