{"id":10564,"date":"2026-05-18T10:37:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T00:37:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/?p=10564"},"modified":"2026-05-26T15:21:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T05:21:58","slug":"world-leading-innovation-for-future-ready-roads-showcased-at-tra2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/world-leading-innovation-for-future-ready-roads-showcased-at-tra2026\/","title":{"rendered":"World-leading Innovation for Future-Ready Roads Showcased at TRA2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<section  class=\"text-editor-block section-pt-sm section-pb-sm bg-white\">\n        <div class=\"container\">\n            \n                            <!-- Single Column Layout -->\n                                    <div class=\"anim text-asphalt prose prose-lg text-left\">\n                        <p>As\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/traconference.eu\/\">Transport Research Arena (TRA2026)<\/a>\u00a0kicks off in Budapest today, the spotlight is on new solutions for the future of sustainable and smart mobility \u2013 and iRAP is leading the charge for safer roads and streets.<\/p>\n<p>Using the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) methodology, road safety infrastructure changes and safer speeds have prevented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/700000-lives-deaths-and-serious-injuries-saved-john-hopkins-report\/\">860,000 deaths and serious injuries globally since 2016<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This week, iRAP is launching\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/irap-star-rating-model-version-3-10-global-insights-and-multilingual-session-recordings\/\">Star Rating Model Version 3.10<\/a>, the latest update to its flagship methodology which has supported road safety assessments in 140 countries. Star Ratings provide an objective measure of the level of safety which is \u2018built-in\u2019 to the road for vehicle occupants, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Lower star ratings indicate less safe roads, while 5\u2011star roads are the safest. The new model update is a major leap forward for evidence-based road safety investment, offering stronger protection for vulnerable road users and improved sensitivity to safety gains.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday 20 May, iRAP will host its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/innovation2026\/\">2026 Innovation Workshop<\/a>, a side event of TRA. The long-standing road safety event, hosted in major cities worldwide for more than a decade, will showcase the latest innovation, policy, technologies and investment helping to deliver future ready roads for safe, sustainable mobility. This includes current innovation projects funded by the European Commission and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/phoebe-project.eu\/\">PHOEBE\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 Predictive approaches for safer urban environments with 11 partners in three pilot cities<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elaborator-project.eu\/\">ELABORATOR\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 Designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate-neutral cities with 38 partners in 12 pilot cities<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ivory-network.eu\/\">IVORY<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 \u00a0AI for Vision Zero in road safety industrial doctorates network with 23 partners for global impact<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/camber-project.eu\/\">CAMBER<\/a> \u2013 Connected and Adaptive Maintenance for Safer Urban and Secondary Roads with 14 partners in five pilot cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Also on show this week is a new-look iRAP &#8211; with a fresh update of iRAP\u2019s logo\u00a0and\u00a0branding, and a new website being unveiled. They\u00a0represent\u00a0a fresh and exciting chapter for our charity.\u00a0Our new branding builds\u00a0on the\u00a0iRAP\u00a0logo\u00a0that has been recognised\u00a0the world-over\u00a0for 20 years, and with the updated 3-lane side swoosh in the logo and accompanying road user and transport pictograms,\u00a0recognises that safe roads\u00a0protect\u00a0all road users with dedicated space\u00a0and human-centric design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>iRAP CEO Greg Smith said:<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                            \n                    <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInnovation and collaboration will be key to promoting safe, inclusive, green, and efficient transport systems throughout the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026\u20132035. At the same time, momentum must continue in the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021\u20132030, which aims to halve global road deaths and injuries by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn Europe, this is guided by the EU road safety policy framework and the Vision Zero ambition to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries by 2050, with a 50 per cent reduction target by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201ciRAP is working with European and global partners to support evidence-based policy, investment, and action to eliminate high-risk roads. New tools and methods, including AI-based solutions like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/fr\/project\/ai-rap\/\">AiRAP<\/a>, are enhancing network-wide road safety assessments and risk analysis, helping partners to optimise their decisions and road assets at scale. Safety approaches focussed on vulnerable road users are being tested in real-world living labs, and data combined in clear, actionable formats are informing safer, more resilient, and inclusive transport networks for people of all ages and abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInnovation and collaboration will be vital to the future of smart and sustainable mobility.
