Professor Urokov Aslidin Khushvaktovich, Dean of the Faculty of Road Engineering, TSTU and Greg Smith, CEO, iRAP sign the MOU<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Within the framework of reforms to improve transport safety in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent State Transport University (TSTU) and iRAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) yesterday to advance road infrastructure safety in the city and beyond.<\/p>\n
The current state of traffic flow on the streets of Tashkent is characterized by increasing traffic density, volume and load on the road network.<\/p>\n
These increases are raising the risk of road crashes and require the application of science-based approaches in traffic management, infrastructure assessment, and evidence-based safety interventions.<\/p>\n
As transport demand increases, systematic analysis and upgrade of high-risk sections of the road, improving the stability of the transport system, and training qualified personnel for the introduction of advanced technologies in road safety are vital.<\/p>\n
Decree No. PP-368 of 4 December 2025 outlined priority areas for modernising Tashkent’s transport system.<\/p>\n
The resolution noted the need to upgrade the road network, introduce modern methods of identifying and remediating dangerous locations, develop intelligent transport systems, and train specialists in the field.<\/p>\n
The MOU signed between TSTU and iRAP has important value to support implementation.<\/p>\n
TSTU and iRAP’s partnership will contribute to the sustainable development of Tashkent’s transport system, improving the safety of the city’s infrastructure and the development of scientific research and implementation expertise aligned to international standards.<\/p>\n
The partnership provides for cooperation in the use of road safety assessment tools, training of specialists, development of research initiatives, the creation of mechanisms for systematic analysis of road risks, and the formation of a national Road Assessment Programme.<\/p>\n
In addition, the memorandum will support bringing localised international best practices to Uzbekistan, the creation of a centre of competence for road safety, and advancement of the academic and programmatic activities of the university.<\/p>\n
We look forward to working with TSTU in advancing road safety in Tashkent and Uzbekistan more widely!<\/p>\n
