The funds have been donated to the<\/span> Tanzania Road Assessment Programme (TanRAP)<\/span><\/a>, an initiative aimed at addressing high-risk roads to prevent further tragedies like Jill\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using skilled auditors trained in the<\/span> Ten Step Tanzania Project<\/span><\/a>, the Ministry of Works, supported by<\/span> Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS)<\/span><\/a>, has completed a road safety audit of the crash location and 57km road upon which she lost her life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The findings have identified high-risk locations and will inform targeted investment in infrastructure improvements, supported by the funds raised in Jill\u2019s honour.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fundraising initiative for TanRAP –<\/span> 101 Adventures for Jill<\/span><\/i><\/a> – was deeply personal, uniquely fun and classicly Jill. In an effort to celebrate her life, cope with their loss, and rally others to support road safety in Tanzania, an online campaign was created by her friends Tessa Watkins and Anna Martin. It invited supporters to join in a series of fun, personal, and challenging adventures, all designed to make Jill proud and represent her adventurous spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goals included: $50 raised \u2013 Learn to skateboard; $100 raised \u2013 Climb a big mountain; $250 raised \u2013 Have a “Yes” day with the kids; $500 raised \u2013 Master the “Worm” dance move; and $3,000 raised \u2013 Get Jill-themed tattoos.<\/span><\/p>\n

The campaign concluded on what would have been Jill\u2019s 38th birthday with the proceeds donated to TanRAP, supporting development in the country she loved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jill\u2019s friend Tessa said, \u201cWe have done this to honour Jill and the joy and inspiration she brought to everyone\u2019s life. By contributing to TanRAP, we hope to make roads safer for everyone in Tanzania and prevent another family and loved ones from going through what we\u2019ve experienced.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cProgress to improve road safety in Tanzania and build local capacity for safer roads surged with the Ten Step Tanzania Project. TanRAP\u2019s work, bringing all local stakeholders together to eliminate the country’s most dangerous roads, will be essential to meeting the SDG goal of halving road deaths and injuries by 2030.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Through their adventures and the TanRAP donation, Jill\u2019s family and friends hope to create lasting change, one adventure at a time, while keeping Jill\u2019s memory alive in the most meaningful way possible.<\/span>
