Using iRAP\u2019s Star Rating model, the images capture the safety of the roads environment, with a particular emphasis on pedestrian access and usage.<\/p>\n<p>Los datos revelan preocupantes brechas en la infraestructura amigable para peatones y leyes que salvan vidas.<\/p>\n<p>More than 156,000 pedestrians used the 118 intersections during peak hours, yet 102 of the intersections lacked 30 km\/h limits or lower, 67 lacked usable footpaths, 106 lacked usable crossings, and 102 lacked traffic calming measures. These are key to making pedestrians\u2019 journeys safer and more comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>At these intersection \u2013 as with many more around the world \u2013 pedestrians have been overlooked in road design and implementation, even where their presence should be expected. Intersections in Argentina, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe have already been transformed, with other NGOs also reporting valuable impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Some examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/events\/mobility-snapshot-story-social-media-based-advocacy-spurs-road-safety-improvements-in-addis-ababa\/\">Addis Ababa, Ethiopia<\/a>, when Save the Nation shared the experience of road users at the Mobility Snapshot intersection via their TikTok channel, it caught the attention of transport planners, who quickly implemented a pedestrian crossing, traffic calming and other interventions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/events\/mobility-snapshot-story-social-media-based-advocacy-spurs-road-safety-improvements-in-addis-ababa\/\">Leer m\u00e1s <\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/1728905926302.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>New pedestrian crossing installed in\u00a0CMC Adebabye intersection in Addis Ababa.\u00a0\u00a9 Save the Nation<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/events\/mobility-snapshot-story-advocacy-contributes-to-landmark-20-km-h-speed-limit-in-azerbaijan\/\">Sumqayit, Azerbaijan<\/a>, AMAK were encouraged that the authorities approved a speed limit of 20 km\/h around School 4, lower than the 30 km\/h limit that the NGO had requested and the first 20 km\/h zone in Azerbaijan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/events\/mobility-snapshot-story-advocacy-contributes-to-landmark-20-km-h-speed-limit-in-azerbaijan\/\">Leer m\u00e1s <\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-05-24-at-21.25.50_f2990150-Elizabete-Nasibova.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The intersection of Asadov Street and School No. 4. \u00a9 AMAK<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsafetyngos.org\/events\/mobility-snapshots-a-safer-crossing-in-neuquen-argentina\/\">Neuquen, Argentina<\/a>, presenting data to the authorities has enabled Bien Argentino to argue the case for speed limit reductions, crossings, and traffic calming at the relevant intersections. They are a resource for road safety advocates to show decision makers what needs to be done, at street level, city level, and national policy level.
