Samar will be stepping into the role of Safer Journeys Specialist for Europe while the recently appointed Safer Journeys Lead for Europe, Olivera Rozi, takes maternity leave.<\/p>\n<p>The Safer Journeys roles are part of iRAP\u2019s Partnerships For 2030 Impact strategy, which places partnerships at the heart of the programme and recognizes the many successes in eliminating high-risk roads that have been achieved though collaboration between road authorities, development banks, donors, institutes, NGOs and the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo del Decenio de Acci\u00f3n para la Seguridad Vial 2021-2030 es reducir a la mitad las muertes y lesiones en carretera, y en toda Europa los pa\u00edses est\u00e1n poniendo en marcha planes que se alinean con el objetivo global y que, en \u00faltima instancia, buscan alcanzar la visi\u00f3n de cero accidentes para 2050. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.who.int\/media\/docs\/default-source\/documents\/health-topics\/road-traffic-injuries\/global-plan-for-road-safety.pdf?sfvrsn=65cf34c8_27&amp;download=true\">Plan mundial para el Decenio de Acci\u00f3n por la Seguridad Vial<\/a> is the achievement of <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/2018\/04\/targets-3-4-what-they-mean-for-safer-roads-globally\/\">Objetivos 3 y 4<\/a> which aim to ensure designs and most existing roads reach 3-stars for all road users.<\/p>\n<p>Samar will be working to build on the many successes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/eurorap.org\/\">EuroRAP <\/a>members and partners during the past two decades and support efforts to ensure that roads and designs are fundamentally safe and accessible for all modes, abilities, and journeys.<\/p>\n<p>Samar is a civil engineer and senior road safety specialist in transportation planning, roads and highway engineering.<\/p>\n<p>She brings to the position almost 30 years\u2019 experience working on road safety in low-, middle- and high-income countries, including as a senior advisor at the Global Road Safety Partnership, senior expert to the World Bank and European Union, and in roles with AECOM and Egis.<\/p>\n<p>Samar is a Road Safety Certified Auditor with specialised knowledge in safe mobility and road safety policies, traffic law enforcement, capacity building, crash data analysis, roads and highways safe design, multi-modal urban mobility planning.<\/p>\n<p>On taking up the position, Samar said, \u201cI am very happy and excited to join the IRAP family and to begin working with EuroRAP partners on creating safer journeys in Europe for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samar is proficient in English, French, and Arabic, and is based in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>She can be contacted via email on <a href=\"mailto:samar.abouraad@irap.org\">samar.abouraad@irap.org<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>iRAP warmly welcomes Samar Abouraad to the iRAP team.
