{"id":2222,"date":"2020-10-06T23:29:25","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T12:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.temp.irap-dev.org\/university-of-zagreb-fpz-signs-as-irap-coe\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:37:57","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T02:37:57","slug":"university-of-zagreb-fpz-signs-as-irap-coe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/university-of-zagreb-fpz-signs-as-irap-coe\/","title":{"rendered":"La Universidad de Zagreb FPZ firma como Centro de Excelencia iRAP en Seguridad de la Infraestructura Vial Global"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">El <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fpz.unizg.hr\/\">University of Zagreb Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fpz.unizg.hr\/\">FPZ<\/a>) y el International Road Assessment Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/\">iRAP<\/a>) have signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/partnering-to-save-lives\/?et_open_tab=et_pb_tab_3#mytabs|3\">Centro de Excelencia<\/a> agreement today, which will support the development of road infrastructure safety in Croatia and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from the virtual signing event, Head of the Department of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Marko Sevrovic said we are delighted to join with iRAP\u2019s ten Centres of Excellence world-wide to provide technical leadership in road infrastructure safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a Centre of Excellence, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chula.ac.th\/en\/\">University of Zagreb<\/a> will focus on building local capacity for high quality <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/how-we-can-help\/?et_open_tab=et_pb_tab_2#mytabs|2\">risk mapping<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/how-we-can-help\/?et_open_tab=et_pb_tab_2#mytabs|0\">star rating<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/how-we-can-help\/?et_open_tab=et_pb_tab_1#mytabs|1\">safer road investment planning<\/a> assessments across Croatia and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis partnership with iRAP will build on FPZ\u2019s experience in assessing and improving European infrastructure safety, and building local capacity, through the current <a href=\"http:\/\/resources.irap.org\/General\/IRAP%20RADAR%20Case%20Study_FINAL.pdf\">RADAR<\/a> Project (across 12 countries in the Danube region) and <a href=\"https:\/\/eurorap.org\/slain-project\/\">ASESINADO<\/a> Project (targeting vulnerable road users on the TEN-T core road network in 4 countries), as well as the 2012-2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.eurorap.org\/2016_SENSOR_Conference_Paper_S_Lawson.pdf\">SENSOR<\/a> Project (in 14 European countries).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe links with iRAP\u2019s partner network across more than 100 countries worldwide will ensure we can accelerate progress toward the achievement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/irap.org\/es\/2018\/04\/targets-3-4-what-they-mean-for-safer-roads-globally\/\">UN Targets<\/a> and eliminate high-risk roads across Croatia and beyond,\u201d Assistant Professor Dr. Sevrovic said.<\/p>\n<p>iRAP CEO Rob McInerney said, \u201cWe are delighted to add University of Zagreb FPZ as an iRAP Centre of Excellence. The Faculty has a near-40 year history and is well placed to be a Centre of Excellence having demonstrated distinction in traffic and transport sciences and research for the public good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFPZ has not only improved road infrastructure safety in Croatia and Europe, but has supported iRAP assessments internationally including in Lebanon, Senegal, Ghana and Ethiopia.\u00a0 Importantly, the University is a leader in innovation, new technology and evidence-based research that will ensure iRAP partners worldwide benefit from their world-leading work.\u00a0 FPZ\u2019s knowledge on improving European road infrastructure safety will ensure iRAP\u2019s models continue to reflect the best and latest practice in life-saving treatments for the benefit all of iRAP partners around the world,\u201d Mr McInerney said.<\/p>\n<p>Other iRAP Centres of Excellence include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrb.com.au\/\">ARRB<\/a> in Australia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eng.chula.ac.th\/en\/23780\">Universidad Chulalongkorn<\/a> in Thailand, \u00a0Instituto Mexicano del Transporte (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.mx\/imt\">IMT<\/a>), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labtrans.ufsc.br\/\">Labtrans<\/a> in Brazil, the Korea Transport Institute (<a href=\"https:\/\/english.koti.re.kr\/\">KOTI<\/a>), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.miros.gov.my\/\">MIROS<\/a>),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mriglobal.org\/\">MRIGlobal<\/a> based in the USA, Research Institute of Highway in China (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rioh.cn\/\">RIOH<\/a>),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trl.co.uk\/\">TRL<\/a> in the United Kingdom<u>,<\/u> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swov.nl\/\">SWOV<\/a> in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>EuroRAP Secretary General Lina Konstantinopoulou said addressing the level of death and injury on roads in Croatia and the European TEN-T and primary road network is a priority of <a href=\"https:\/\/eurorap.org\/\">EuroRAP<\/a> and the European Commission (EC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission\u2019s recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/qanda_20_1004\">2019 Road Safety Statistics<\/a> highlighted Croatia as recording its lowest ever road fatality rates, though European progress has slowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFPZ\u2019s work will be important to supporting the EC Directive 2008\/96\/EC and life-saving gains. Besides education of the new generation of transport experts, which is the main focus of the Faculty, Faculty has a strong alignment with national, regional, and international scientific, research and development projects funded by a wide variety of institutions, from local stakeholders to EU bodies. One of the main focal points of the FPZ project- and research-related activities for a number of years has been road safety with aptitude for road infrastructure safety and network-wide road safety assessment with demonstrated excellence in road safety engineering and focusing on activities for the public good.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transport Planning, established as an independent department within the Faculty, has developed several advanced methods for road infrastructure surveys and analysis through its Laboratory for Georeferenced Video. In 12 years of existence, the Department has successfully implemented over 200 scientific and research projects mainly in the field of road safety, road infrastructure safety, sustainable urban mobility planning and transport<\/p>\n<p>So far, FPZ has performed road infrastructure safety assessment utilizing iRAP protocols extended by the specific requirements of road authorities on approximately 31.500 km of roads in various countries across the world, including England, Qatar, Lebanon, Senegal, Ethiopia, Ghana, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina etc. This aspect of road safety has been the basis of the Faculty\u2019s involvement in EU funded projects <a href=\"https:\/\/eurorap.org\/sensor\/\">SENSOR<\/a> (South-East Europe TCP), <a href=\"http:\/\/http\/resources.irap.org\/General\/IRAP%20RADAR%20Case%20Study_FINAL.pdf\">RADAR<\/a> (Danube Transnational Programme) and <a href=\"https:\/\/eurorap.org\/slain-project\/\">ASESINADO<\/a> (Connecting Europe Facility).<\/p>\n<p><strong>About EuroRAP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El Programa Europeo de Evaluaci\u00f3n de Carreteras (EuroRAP) es una asociaci\u00f3n internacional sin \u00e1nimo de lucro, creada en 1999 y registrada en B\u00e9lgica, dedicada a salvar vidas mediante carreteras m\u00e1s seguras.
