The 5-year agreement will facilitate collaboration between the IDB and iRAP to promote programs and projects to significantly improve the safety of the roads in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>Over 110,000 people were killed and more than 1 million were seriously injured in road crashes in Latin America in 2016, at a cost of USD$224 billion or 4.4 per cent of GDP (WHO, 2018).<\/p>\n<p>La alianza se centrar\u00e1 en lograr una reducci\u00f3n cuantificable de los traumatismos viales en la regi\u00f3n de Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe y contribuir\u00e1 a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) y a las Metas Mundiales de Desempe\u00f1o en Seguridad Vial, en particular la Meta 3: \u201cPara 2030, todas las carreteras nuevas alcanzar\u00e1n est\u00e1ndares t\u00e9cnicos para todos los usuarios de la v\u00eda que tengan en cuenta la seguridad vial, o cumplir\u00e1n con una calificaci\u00f3n de tres estrellas o superior\u201d; y la Meta 4: \u201cPara 2030, m\u00e1s de 751 toneladas de viajes en carreteras existentes se realizar\u00e1n en carreteras que cumplan con est\u00e1ndares t\u00e9cnicos para todos los usuarios de la v\u00eda que tengan en cuenta la seguridad vial\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will pave the way to implement Road Assessment Programmes (RAPs), following the iRAP methodology in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will help reduce the number of casualties and serious injuries caused by road accidents in the region.<\/p>\n<p>El trabajo de iRAP y el BID tambi\u00e9n se centrar\u00e1 en revisar los m\u00e9todos utilizados para evaluar inversiones previas en infraestructura de seguridad vial y en brindar orientaci\u00f3n y recomendaciones para futuras inversiones, con \u00e9nfasis en m\u00e9todos para medir la efectividad de los programas.
